Raw Food Detoxification: Shedding Unwanted Thoughts

When you first begin a journey into raw, living foods, you may start by reading raw food diet testimonials. So many wonderful, brilliant, funny and beautiful people enjoy the raw food lifestyle. As you read their blogs and personal testimony, you may suddenly find some random thoughts flashing through your mind…

•    "I can never be like her!"

•    "I had a brownie last night…I guess I'm not cut out for the raw food lifestyle."

•    "I just don't want to live my life without ice cream."

•    "What am I going to tell grandma next Thanksgiving when she breaks out the pumpkin pie?"

Stop and breathe. All of these thoughts are normal. They're actually part of the detoxification process. Just like your body is shedding chemicals and toxins it's accumulated from a lifetime of eating processed, cooked foods, so too your mind needs time to detoxify from poisonous thoughts.

You're Not Bad. You Just Ate a Cookie.

The first unwanted and unproductive thought to shed is the theme and variation that revolves around slipping up or
eating an occasional cooked or processed food.

The mental singsong starts with a bit of chiding.  "Gee, you shouldn't have eaten that cookie."

Then it gets a bit more serious. "Oh, you've done it now. You've just put sugar and toxins right back into your body."

Now the voice gets a bit crueler. "You screw everything up. You're just not cut out for raw foods."

    And it continues…

"And you're a bad person!" Worthless, fat….oh that inner critic can be SO mean!

Who needs bullies when you've got your very own internal bully? After years of beating yourself up, it can be hard to detoxify from bad thoughts.

Remember, you're not a bad, fat, evil loser.  You just ate a cookie. One cookie!

Start Mental Detoxification with New Thoughts

You can choose the thoughts that you think. Along the way you thought some things that aren't adding to your health, happiness and well being. They may even
be hindering you on your raw food journey.

Time to clean out your mental pantry. Just like you probably got rid of boxes of Hamburger Helper and Processed Cheese Food (whatever the heck that is) from
your pantry and refrigerator when you decided to embrace a raw, living food lifestyle, now you've got to clean out your mental pantry.

Start by consciously writing down some positive thoughts.

    "I love myself."

Louise Hay, a noted author and speaker, says that the most important affirmation you can say is, "I love myself."  If you say only one affirmation, make it this one.
It's short, simple, and wipes out many of the negative and self-defeating thoughts that lurk just under the surface of consciousness.

Now say the second most powerful affirmation.

    "I approve of myself."

Approving and loving yourself are the first steps towards detoxifying your mind. Think of them like brooms that sweep the cobwebs out of consciousness.
For how can you be a bad person if you love and approve of yourself? And if you love and approve of yourself, you'll feel better about yourself, your health,
and your choice to live the raw food lifestyle.

Begin detoxification of your thoughts today. Thoughts are things. Make yours work for you, not against you.
